[Voice AI x Voice Medicine] We Provided Support to the Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation

mocomoco Inc. (Representative Director and CEO: Yasunori Tanaka, hereafter "mocomoco"), developer and provider of the voice recognition AI "mocoVoice", deeply resonated with the philosophy of the Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation (Chairman: Kimitaka Kaga), and has made a donation to the foundation. In addition, our CEO, Mr. Tanaka, gave a lecture at their "Gathering" held in October of this year. Our company supports digital transformation (DX) in medical settings through our core technology of spoken language AI, and we will continue to cooperate in the cultivation of human resources responsible for medical technology and healthcare, including speech and language medicine.

< Background of the Support >

Through our voice recognition AI, "mocoVoice," which pursues "quality usable in the field," mocomoco has been supporting the streamlining of medical tasks such as transcription. By encountering the complex challenges and deep insights surrounding "voice" in actual medical environments, we became convinced that the further advancement of our spoken language AI hinges not only on engineering approaches but also on integration with knowledge from speech and language medicine regarding human hearing and vocalization. In particular, the achievements of Dr. Kotoji Satta, a pioneer who laid the foundations of modern phonetics, have served as a major guiding principle for us.

We decided on this support out of deep respect for Dr. Satta and a desire to foster future physicians who will carry on his legacy. As a company aiming to contribute to society through voice technology, we believe it is our vital mission to support the advancement of the medical fields that form the foundation of our technology.

In conjunction with this support, our CEO, Mr. Tanaka, took the stage at the Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation's "Gathering" held in October of this year. He delivered a lecture themed "Future Healthcare Supported by Voice AI," discussing topics ranging from foundational knowledge of the latest LLMs (Large Language Models) to how spoken language AI is currently supporting clinical and research settings.

Lively Q&A session with the audience

Many medical scholarship students attended the event, and following the lecture, there was a lively Q&A session and exchange of opinions regarding AI and medicine. Through this interaction, it was a valuable opportunity to deepen our conviction in the future that will be forged when both fields work hand in hand.

< About the Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation / Dr. Kotoji Satta >

The Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation is a public interest incorporated foundation established in 1976, based on the legacy and estate of Dr. Kotoji Satta (Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, First President of the Japan Society of Logopedics and Phoniatrics), who was a leading figure in voice and auditory research in Japan. After earning his degree for "Auricular Reflex Movement by Acoustic Stimulation," Dr. Satta established the clinical department for speech and language disorders at the University of Tokyo in 1935. By accumulating experimental research on "voice," he built the scientific foundation that leads to modern phonetics.

The Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation provides non-repayable grant scholarships to medical students who possess both academic and personal excellence, and who aspire to contribute to society as future physicians. Going beyond financial assistance, the foundation encourages interaction among scholars and alumni through its "Gathering" held three times a year, providing an environment where students can broadly acquire the personal qualities and academic knowledge required of a doctor. To date, over 280 scholars have graduated and are active in various fields, including clinical practice, research, education, and administration.

Contributing to the Cultivation of Talent for the Future of Healthcare with Voice AI Technology

We support medical frontlines by analyzing voice data with AI. We were deeply moved by the achievements of Dr. Kotoji Satta, who laid the groundwork in the closely related fields of voice and medicine, and by the noble philosophy of the Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation to nurture the talent that will lead the future of healthcare. We are deeply honored to have this opportunity to assist the students who will inherit his legacy and create the medicine of tomorrow. Taking this support as an opportunity, we ourselves will continue to make even greater efforts to accelerate the collaboration between voice AI and phonetics, striving to contribute to solving the challenges in medical settings.

< Future Outlook >

mocomoco will take this support as a first step and continue its activities to contribute to the advancement of speech and language medicine and the broader healthcare field. By pursuing the possibilities brought about by the collaboration between voice AI and voice medicine, and by providing valuable solutions for both healthcare professionals and patients, we aim to realize a better society.
